GETTING TO BRAGA

The closest airport to Braga is the Sá Carneiro International Airport in Porto, some 50 km away. Sá Carneiro is served by regular flights from Faro and Lisbon, in Portugal, as well as direct flights from several cities around the world.

FROM PORTO TO BRAGA:

By Public Transportation
Onward travel from Porto to Braga is pretty straightforward. If you choose to travel by public transportation, simply take the subway "metro" to Porto Centre - head for the bus station at Rua Alfredo Magalhães. From here, there is a Braga bus at least every hour, with some half-hourly services during rush hour and at peak times.

By Train
It is also possible to travel from Porto to Braga by train from the centrally located Sao Bento station. To reach Braga by train, take the subway to Sao Bento, from where there are regular daily departures. As Braga is located on Portugal's rail network, it can also be accessed from Lisbon and other stations across Portugal, as well as from over the border in Spain, for instance from nearby Vigo as well as further afield. By Public Bus service
There is a direct bus service ('Getbus') from the airport to Braga and back, running every 2-3 hours. (http://getbus.eu/)

By Car
For those looking for information on how to get to Braga by car, it couldn't be simpler. Take the main A3 (also known as the E1 or IP1), which runs from north to south. Coming from the south, the road will take you via Porto, and coming from the north, it approaches via the nearby Spanish border. Simply take the A11 exit eastbound and the road will lead you conveniently into the centre of the city.


FROM LISBON TO BRAGA:

Portela Airport (Lisboa) is approximately 370 km from Braga.
From Lisboa to Braga there are several options available.

By train:
use a taxi or take a bus to Lisbon Oriente railway station (bus line #5), or to Lisbon Santa Apolonia railway terminus (bus line # 745), and then on to Braga by train (for a 3h30 minutes long ride each way on board of quite modern trains called Alfa Pendular)

By bus:
Bus service from Lisbon to Braga is also available from Lisboa Oriente multimodal station or from the Sete Rios bus station (farther away than Oriente), and then take the bus to Braga

By car:
Highway A1 till Porto and then A3 to Braga


From Braga train station to the city center and the University of Minho:
- If you choose the bus, at the bus stop by the train station (bus stop "Rotunda Estação") you can take buses number 24 (direction to Gualtar) and number 43 (direction to University of Minho) (http://www.tub.pt). [Braga's Public transports also provide detailed info on buses routes in google maps]
